Active Discos has provided more than 70 discos for Wedding Receptions during 2010.

Each and every one of those 70 wedding’s was important to us as the next and we try to take every care in ensuring we listen to your exact requirements whilst supplying helpful information along the way taken from our extensive previous experience.

Active Discos operates in the supply of DJ’s and Discos but we are not an agency, we run the business like any other company where we have DJ’s who work directly for us as employees of the company and follow the guidelines set by our Company alone.

Having this kind of business model provides us with the unique opportunity to select the most appropriate DJ for each wedding, which is based largely around the age range of the Bride, Groom, guests and the general Style of music required for the evening.

We are also in a unique position whereby if (for whatever reason) the unthinkable occurs and the DJ cannot fulfil the booking, we always have other DJ’s on hand to immediately take over the booking at any stage allowing the client to place complete faith in their booking with us.

For every booking we provide a full contract underlining our commitments to the client and our company is Public Liability insured a requirement in many hotel venues.

We try to ensure our disco prices remain competitive and considering the above think how much extra for the price you are getting by booking a disco with Active Discos.

We also have a couple of our DJ’s and discos still available to do New Years Eve Parties, please be aware that we do pay our DJ’s double time on New Year’s Eve (to make up for them missing out on the biggest party night of the year), so the disco price for this date only is double to that what we normally charge – see prices page for full details.

We are unfortunately not taking any more Children Disco bookings or Equipment Hire Bookings during December as these are now fully booked but we are more than happy to discuss alternative dates.

One of the things I have been trying to decide on ever since I bought my First set of disco equipment in 2004 was when and if I should make the jump from CD’s to some sort of USB device for playing music. The technology has been available ever since this time but pricing and reliability has always kept me firmly in the world of CD’s.

In addition to this LED disco lighting has become more and more popular and increasing competitive over traditional halogen disco lights. LED disco lights appeal to me on many levels; the obvious selling point is no more dead bulbs, an environmental and general nuisance for mobile discos. LED Discos lighting is also light weight in comparison to traditional halogen lighting, it creates very little heat and uses very little energy, again this is an added benefit from an environmental point of view that LED lighting has over halogen lighting.

Over the years, as I have built the business and invested in additional disco rigs I have always stuck with buying identical equipment. This ensures two things, firstly if you see one of our discos in a venue and book us for your function you will get exactly the same disco elsewhere even if a different DJ is running it AND each it ensures DJ has the same make and style of equipment regardless of which rigs he uses and therefore is completely familiar with the equipment.

Buying identical equipment each time does have one major drawback; if I upgrade to a USB playback device or LED Lighting on one disco rig I have to update ALL sets of equipment on all the rigs…a costly process!

For each new full set of disco equipment I purchase I have this same tricky decision to make…do I continue to purchase effectively outdated equipment to ensure I keep all the equipment rigs identical?

With our busiest period looming (Christmas) and the prospect of having to reinvest and purchase another new disco setup the answer to this was finally “NO”!

It was a big step and one not taken lightly but the time had come to not only future proof the equipment but to provide our Customers with the most up to date, innovative and impressive LED/Laser disco lighting and Sound equipment currently available.

After careful investigation into the products available I selected the following upgraded disco lighting for all the disco rigs:

Each of our discos now consists of the following disco lighting:

1x Kam Starcluster
2 x Acme Impossibled LED Moonflower
4 x Equinox Warp Lighting Effect

And each disco now uses a DDS Numark Media Controller replacing CD players. The DDS allows the most flexibility when it comes to soft media e.g. whether it is a Laptop a Memory Stick or an IPod the DDS can play from any of these devices and has multiple USB inputs.

The good news is that all of this new upgraded disco equipment is now in full use, so when you book one of our discos and we are able to allocate one of our own DJ’s to the booking, keep an eye out for the new disco lights – I think you will definitely be impressed.

Two of our DJ’s stood up to the challenge and agreed to become our Karaoke Compère’s and I can happily report our first full Karaoke Disco booking went down an absolute storm.

And more exciting news, we have decided to go for a complete upgrade of all our existing disco Lighting and Sound control for all of our disco setups. This will include the move from CD’s to Hard drive which will provide the facility to mix from a single Ipod or hard drive and remove the necessity to carry heavy boxes of CD’s.

Our disco lighting upgrade will mean the end of Halogen Bulb disco lighting and the move to use LED lighting which looks both impressive and means the end of dead bulbs and power hungry lighting. Finally we have selected a new centre piece cluster laser which looks absolutely amazing, it is unlike any other laser you have seen before and does not require smoke.

All the new disco equipment will be available through our Equipment Hire service as well as the straight disco hire and as soon as we have made the upgrade we will update the website to show the new items.
